Lenovo Chromebook Duet Review: Easy to Set Up and Affordable

 

Chrome OS has had a tablet mode for such a long time but committed Chrome OS tablets have been a little far between. There were some bad Chromebook tablets for the classroom, and then we had the HP X2 and the Google Pixel Slate. The X2 is worked great, but it’s not a tablet, and while Slate was significant, it was so costly, even more, when you added the kickstand case, and you need a keyboard to get work done at a good speed.

One of the best parts came up with a great affordable price, which we expect in a mid-range. It is the best couch companion for some casual Research, Reading, and Reddit. 

Price and Availability

The Lenovo Duet launched in May 2020 – in the middle of 2020s huge Chromebook storage – but retailers have been able to keep the Duet in stock and at an affordable price in most different budget models. This has made it one of the best Chromebooks and is widely available for purchase.

Also, one of the most budget-friendly and mid-range Chromebooks right now. Now you can find 64GB models at Amazon and Walmart quite easily. We’ve seen that on Black Friday/Cyber Monday have some great discount offers to get the Duet down at $150, but if you just want the tablet, not the keyboard and kickstand, so, the Lenovo 10e Chromebook tablet has been down to $99 off.

Tablet Shape, Chromebook Smarts

The shape and size of the duet are 10.1inch tablets with enough slim profiles and bezels around the entire screen that are the perfect size for carrying the tablet. The screen can get brighter enough to read but try to spend most of the time with low brightness, either around 40% or down at minimum brightness, while using it as an e-reader in the room.

I’m impressed by the two-tone look to the back of the Duet. Inside the tablets sits a 7,000mAh battery, but Chromebooks usually have a 40Wh battery and last for at least 8-11 hours on a charge.

The best way to use tabs, I usually used to open 6-10 Chrome tabs consistently, 1-3 apps in regular use, with 4-7 hours of use a day, with brightness around 15-50% depending upon in which I’m working. If you use this simple device – a few hours of reading, a few hours of video – you might see the battery last for a long period of time, but Duet is the best enough to prove that.

Performance Prowess and Pitfalls

Chromebooks have worked better for the last four years; the Duet is so powerful as you’d expect for its price tag but still less powerful than I’m used to. Rather than using the Intel Celeron’s N4000, we saw in Lenovo’s C340-11 and S340-14 – as well as mostly its education Chromebooks last year – uses of Duet in the MediaTek Helio P60T.

For tablet, P60T is capable enough, especially as a resource as light as Chrome OS, and I would not recommend it for full-time cause when you spend a lot of time on video calls through Meet and Zoom, it is going to be full-bore work.

I’ve been using the Duet for full time since they arrived more than a week, and 98% of the time, it works the same as it should: Usually, 7-10 tabs open in chrome, added 1-3 Android apps in the background. Google Meet has hit Pixelbook before, so it doesn’t bother me for long-term performance. I’ve been working on Duet and as well on other Chromebooks over my desk in the last two years. It is not a powerhouse, but that’s enough to work all day and play at night, which is great for the Duet.

You should buy it

Lenovo Duet is a device that can do it all: it works amazingly when you need to get out of the way and want to play games or watch movies.

On the other hand, Duet works best as a companion device, like a tablet. The battery-sipping of Duet might not be the shiniest or sleekest tablet around, but it’s surely the most practical tablet out there.
